Schedule: Monday 8:00 PM et/pt on truTV
Description:

Bait Car uses a thirty-minute format to showcase sting operations from police agencies across the country. The premise of Bait Car is to leave the keys in the ignition of a late model vehicle and wait for criminal opportunists to steal the car. On occasion, a few good Samaritans will notify the authorities about the vulnerable vehicle, however, most Bait Car scenarios will watch and monitor the crime of grand theft auto from start to finish.

Bait Car locations focus on high-crime neighborhoods located in Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York and many more large municipalities across the nation. The carefully monitored sting operations begin with undercover police women who stage a fight, exit their vehicle, and leave the scene in another vehicle. The bait car will often have the engine running or the driver's door opened to invite interest from would-be car thieves.

The bait car will be abandoned on the street and waiting for an unscrupulous suspect to take advantage of the situation. The bait cars are equipped with video and audio devices to monitor the criminals as they speed away in the stolen car. When authorities are ready to move in and make the arrest, they use a kill switch to shut down the engine on the bait car. Suspects are ordered out of the vehicle at gun point, handcuffed, and are given the opportunity to explain their actions. Some of the wild and creative stories the criminals come up with make for some sensational comedy on the Bait Car series.

Bait Car episodes provide two to three sting operations per show and have proven to be a crime deterrent among the auto theft rings. Shopping malls, sports arena parking structures and other car theft target hot spots are now setting up warning signs that bait car vehicles may be planted in the parking facilities.

Bait Car rates highly among the reality crime shows for action, conflict and shocking surprises. Although Bait Car episodes are geared for most audiences, some content may not be suitable for younger viewers.
