Battleground is a political mockumentary series that revolves around the fictional political campaign of Matt and Tak, two candidates competing for a seat in the Wisconsin State Senate. The show takes a satirical look at the world of politics, poking fun at the candidates, their staffers, and the campaign process as a whole.

The show starts off by introducing the viewers to each of the main characters. Matt is a young and idealistic candidate who is backed by a team of dedicated and sometimes eccentric campaign staffers. Tak, on the other hand, is a seasoned politician who is supported by a team of ruthless and cunning campaign strategists.

As the election gets into full swing, the show takes a closer look at the inner workings of both campaigns. We see the lengths that each side will go to in order to gain an advantage over the other. From planting spies in the opponent's camp to launching negative attack advertisements, both sides are determined to win the election by any means necessary.

Throughout the show, we also see how the world of politics can take a toll on the personal lives of those involved. Matt struggles to balance his campaign with his relationship with his girlfriend, while one of his staffers grapples with the fact that his wife may be cheating on him. Meanwhile, Tak's campaign manager has to deal with the fallout of his own affair while also trying to keep the campaign on track.

One of the standout features of Battleground is its cast of characters. Each member of the campaign staff is unique and brings their own quirks and personality to the show. Highlights include Alex, Matt's quirky field director who is constantly obsessed with his pedometer, and Kara, Tak's campaign manager who is both cunning and ruthless in her pursuit of victory.

Another strength of the show is its writing. The showrunners do an excellent job of balancing humor with the more serious aspects of politics. The show's many one-liners and comedic situations provide plenty of laughs, while the various issues and controversies that arise throughout the campaign add some realism and weight to the proceedings.

If there is one caveat to Battleground, it is that the show can be a bit slow-paced at times. As a mockumentary series, the show is heavily reliant on its dialogue and character interactions, which can sometimes lead to a slower pace. However, the show's humor and excellent writing more than make up for any pacing issues.

Overall, Battleground is a strong entry in the political satire genre. It offers a funny and insightful look at the world of politics, while also telling a compelling story with a colorful cast of characters. If you're a fan of shows like Veep or The Office, then Battleground is definitely worth checking out.
