As the war between the Cylons and the human survivors rages on, Colonial Day brings a brief reprieve to the crew of the Galactica. With the engine room in desperate need of repairs, Chief Tyrol is able to convince President Roslin to hold the annual celebration on board the ship. As the crew prepares for the festivities and the arrival of the twelve colonial representatives, tensions run high as the Cylons continue to threaten their safety.

Meanwhile, some of the senior members of the crew begin to suspect that the election for Vice President, which is scheduled to take place during Colonial Day, may be rigged in favor of the current Vice President, Gaius Baltar. Commander Adama tasks Captain Lee "Apollo" Adama with investigating the matter, but the young pilot is hesitant to get involved in political affairs.

As the colonial representatives arrive on board the Galactica, the crew is faced with the reality of their limited resources and the difficulties of maintaining order in a world on the brink of collapse. Despite these challenges, the celebration continues and the delegates are given a tour of the ship and an opportunity to speak with the crew.

It's during this interaction that tensions rise to a boiling point. The representatives make it clear that they do not believe the Cylon threat is as urgent as the Galactica crew has been reporting. This leads to a heated exchange between President Roslin and the representative from Gemenon, resulting in the President lashing out and calling for the representative to "shut up".

As if that wasn't enough drama for one day, the election for Vice President takes place and it quickly becomes clear that something strange is happening. The votes coming in don't match up with the number of delegates present, and it seems that someone is tampering with the election. Apollo finally takes action and begins to investigate, but what he uncovers could have disastrous consequences for the future of the fleet.

Overall, Colonial Day serves as a reminder that even in times of war, humans will still fight amongst themselves over power and control. While the celebration brings a brief moment of respite for the crew, it doesn't take long for tensions to boil over and the struggle for survival to take precedence once again.
