The series entitled Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad is about the life and adventures of a young boy known as Koyuki Tanaka. The series begins when Tanaka also called Koyuki is fourteen years old and a high school student. Tanaka is well known by the people around him for his solitary lifestyle and timid nature. One day after he starts school, he rescues a dog known as Beck from some children who are making fun of the dog because it is ugly. He later finds out that the owner of the dog is a young man called Ryusuke a wealthy and upcoming musician in the area. After a few meetings, Ryusuke encourages Tanaka and decides to teach him how to play the guitar. Ryusuke later forms a rock band alongside other teenagers and name it after his dog BECK. The other members include Tsunemi Chiba, Togo the drummer and Taira.

As the story continues, the band members start having conflicts with one another. Tanaka has misunderstandings with Maho, Ryusuke's step sister. One day, Tanaka accidentally breaks Ryusuke's guitar. Ryusuke gets very angry and tells Tanaka never to talk to him again. Tanaka goes to meet Kenichi who gives him a job in exchange for the repair of the guitar. One year after, he returns to Ryusuke with the repaired guitar and becomes a member of Beck alongside Saku after Todo leaves the group.

Shortly after, they release their first album and also perform at an international festival. Due to misunderstandings, the members part ways and the band splits. Tanaka finds it difficult to survive without the band. So he decides to resolve the problems and reunite the band members except for Ryusuke.

They continue a few stage performances but after a poor performance at a show they receive a bann. Ryusuke comes back, rejoins the band and the complete team returns to the spot light with brilliant and impressive performances. They make a remarkable comeback, they release new albums, go on national and international tours and make headline news especially after their performance at the Greatful Sound Nine Stage.
