Beetlejuice is a comedic animated television series that was produced by Nelvana Limited for ABC. It originally aired from 1989 until 1991, lasting a total of 94 episodes. The show is based on the hit movie of the same name, and follows the same general premise of the film.

In the show, we are introduced to a teenage girl named Lydia Deetz (voiced by Alyson Court) who lives in a strange and spooky house in the town of Peaceful Pines. The house is haunted by the spirits of a married couple named Adam (voiced by Stephen Ouimette) and Barbara Maitland (voiced by Susan Roman), who died in a tragic accident. Despite their best efforts, Lydia is the only living person who can see and hear the Maitlands, leading to a unique friendship.

Things take a wild turn when a mischievous and obnoxious ghost named Beetlejuice (voiced by Stephen Ouimette) enters the scene. Beetlejuice is initially introduced as a nightmare figure that Lydia conjures up to get rid of some unwanted houseguests, but he quickly becomes a series regular. He has the power to shape-shift, teleport, and utilize various ghostly powers, using his abilities to get into all sorts of trouble.

Alongside Lydia, Adam and Barbara, Beetlejuice spends his days entertaining himself by pulling various pranks on the ghostly residents of the Neitherworld, a strange and mysterious realm that exists right alongside the living world. The inhabitants of the Neitherworld are colorful and diverse, ranging from skeletal creatures to demonic beings and everything in between. Beetlejuice has a particular fondness for two of the residents of the Neitherworld named Jacques and Ginger, who both have crushes on him.

Other recurring characters in the show include Lydia's parents, Charles and Delia Deetz (voiced by Charles Adler and Elizabeth Hanna respectively), who are often oblivious to the ghostly goings-on in their own home. The show also features a variety of guest stars, including witches, vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural beings.

Beetlejuice is a zany and irreverent show that often breaks the fourth wall, with characters frequently addressing the audience directly. The show is infamous for its use of puns and wordplay, with many of the jokes and gags centering around wordplay and clever use of language. Despite its cartoonish exterior, the show also tackles some darker themes, including death, the afterlife, and the fear of the unknown.

The animation style of the show is also noteworthy, featuring exaggerated character designs and bold, bright colors. The show's opening sequence, featuring the iconic "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)" by Harry Belafonte, has become a beloved piece of pop culture history.

Overall, Beetlejuice is a classic animated series that blends humor and horror in a unique and entertaining way. Its colorful cast of characters, clever writing, and iconic visuals have ensured its place in pop culture history.
