Beyond the Break is an American drama television series that premiered on The N network in June 2006. The show revolves around the lives of four girls, Kai (played by Sonya Balmores), Dawn (played by Natalie Ramsey), Birdie (played by Tiffany Hines), and Lacey (played by Suzie Pollard), who are world-class surfers competing on the professional circuit. The series was created by and produced by Michael Berk and Douglas Schwartz, who were also responsible for the hit show Baywatch.

The girls are all students at the prestigious Makaha Resort & Paradise Private School, where they balance their rigorous training schedules with their academic responsibilities. With the help of their coach, Justin (played by Jason Tam), the girls strive for success in the competitive surfing world while also navigating the challenges of high school life.

One of the central characters on the show is Vin (played by Michael Copon), a surfer who becomes Kai's love interest. Vin is a skilled surfer, but he has a troubled past that he must overcome in order to achieve his goals. Another important character is Bailey (played by Ross Thomas), a rival surfer who causes conflict for the rest of the Makaha team.

The show's plotlines often revolve around the characters' relationships with each other, both romantically and platonically. The girls must work together to achieve their goals, but they also deal with jealousy, betrayal, and drama within their group. The show also explores themes related to identity, family, and loyalty.

Beyond the Break was lauded for its portrayal of female characters in sports. The show was one of the first to feature female surfers as the main characters and show them competing at a professional level. In addition to focusing on their athleticism, the show also depicted the girls as complex individuals with different personalities, goals, and struggles. The show received praise for its positive representation of women in sports and its emphasis on teamwork and friendship.

The cast of Beyond the Break includes a mix of established and up-and-coming actors. Michael Copon, who played Vin, had previously appeared on the show Power Rangers Time Force and later went on to feature in other hit shows such as One Tree Hill and Teen Wolf. Sonya Balmores, who played Kai, was a professional surfer before transitioning into acting. She later appeared in Marvel's Inhumans and played the lead role in the film Aloha Surf Hotel. The rest of the cast, including Natalie Ramsey, Ross Thomas, David Chokachi, Tiffany Hines, Suzie Pollard, Jason Tam, and Erin Kelly, were also well-received for their performances on the show.

Overall, Beyond the Break was a beloved series that appealed to fans of teenage drama as well as sports enthusiasts. The show was praised for its realistic portrayal of the competitive surfing world and its positive message about female empowerment and teamwork. Despite ending after only three seasons, the show has developed a cult following and remains a fan favorite today.
