In "Vision Thing," the fifth episode of Big Love's second season, Bill Henrickson (played by Bill Paxton) is feeling overwhelmed. He's trying to juggle his three wives--Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn), Nicki (Chloë Sevigny), and Margene (Ginnifer Goodwin)--along with his expanding business ventures, and it's all starting to take a toll. As the episode begins, Bill is struggling to keep up with everything, including a new casino deal that threatens to push him to the breaking point.

Meanwhile, Nicki is dealing with her own issues. She's still trying to come to grips with the fact that she was once married to Roman Grant (Harry Dean Stanton), the prophet of the cult-like compound where she grew up. She's also feeling a bit distant from her husband Bill, and is worried that her feelings of jealousy and resentment could drive him away.

Barb, the "first wife," is focused on her own problems, namely her ongoing struggles with her faith. She's been trying to reconcile her beliefs with the fact that her husband is now running a casino, which she sees as a symbol of everything she used to abhor. She's also grappling with her feelings of abandonment, as her son Ben (Douglas Smith) is increasingly drawn to life in the compound.

Margene, the youngest and newest wife, is trying to find her place in this complex family dynamic. She's feeling left out as Bill and the other wives deal with their own issues, and is also struggling to come to terms with the fact that she's no longer the "new kid on the block."

As the episode progresses, each character is forced to confront their own demons. Bill's business deal hits a snag, sending him into a tailspin as he wonders how he's going to make ends meet. Nicki, still reeling from her past with Roman, decides to confront her fears head-on. Barb finds solace in a surprising ally who helps her see the light, and Margene finally finds her voice and starts standing up for herself.

Throughout it all, "Vision Thing" is a thought-provoking exploration of faith, family, and the complexities of human relationships. Each character is flawed in their own way, but their struggles feel real and relatable. The performances are top-notch, with Paxton, Tripplehorn, Sevigny, and Goodwin all turning in nuanced and heartfelt performances.

Ultimately, "Vision Thing" is a standout episode of Big Love, showcasing the series at its best. It's a must-watch for fans of complex family dramas and anyone interested in exploring the human condition in all its messy glory.
