Ichigo continues to improve his abilities as a substitute soul reaper and is tasked with assisting Kon, a mod soul in the form of a stuffed lion, in capturing a rogue Hollow. Kon is less than thrilled about the partnership, often questioning Ichigo's competence and bravery, but the two manage to work together to track down the Hollow.

Renji easily dispatches the Hollow with his powerful zanpakuto, leaving Ichigo in awe of his abilities. Renji explains that he has been sent to retrieve Rukia Kuchiki, the soul reaper who lent Ichigo her powers, as she has been declared a traitor by the Soul Society and is to be executed.

Ichigo refuses to believe that Rukia deserves such a fate and vows to save her, even if it means confronting the entire Soul Society. Renji, impressed by Ichigo's determination, offers to train him in the art of soul reaping, to which Ichigo reluctantly agrees.

The episode ends with Ichigo and Renji sparring, with Ichigo still struggling to keep up with his more experienced opponent. However, he remains determined to become stronger and save Rukia, no matter what the cost.
