Ep 7. Friendless Child

Boardwalk Empire is a period drama centered around the life of Enoch "Nucky" Thompson and his rise to power as the political boss of Atlantic City during the Prohibition era. In the seventh episode of the fifth and final season, titled "Friendless Child," Nucky is dealing with the aftermath of a major decision made in the previous episode.

As the episode opens, Nucky is still reeling from the death of Sally Wheet, who was killed in front of him in last week's episode. He receives a letter from his estranged wife, Margaret Schroeder, informing him that their son, Teddy, has been expelled from school for fighting. Nucky decides to make a surprise visit to Margaret's home in New York City to take care of the situation.

Meanwhile, White House special investigator Gaston Means arrives in Atlantic City to investigate Nucky's involvement in a land deal in Florida. Nucky meets with Means and tries to smooth things over, but Means is suspicious and warns Nucky that he is on thin ice.

Elsewhere, Chalky White is still on the run from the law after escaping from prison. He has made his way to Macon, Georgia, where he meets a woman named Daughter Maitland. Daughter is a jazz singer who knows how to take care of herself, and she and Chalky strike up a tenuous alliance.

Back in New York City, Nucky meets with Margaret and Teddy. He tries to reconnect with his son but finds that Teddy is distant and angry. Margaret tells Nucky that Teddy is struggling to cope after witnessing a violent crime, and she urges Nucky to be patient and understanding.

Later, Nucky attends a fundraiser for the Catholic Church where he runs into his old flame, Sally Wheet's sister Bernice. Bernice is bitter and angry over Sally's death, and she blames Nucky for her sister's involvement in the criminal world. Nucky tries to make amends, but Bernice is unmoved.

As the episode comes to a close, Chalky and Daughter arrive in Atlantic City. They seek out Nucky, who is surprised to see Chalky alive and well. Chalky asks Nucky for his help in dealing with a mutual enemy, and Nucky agrees to hear him out.

"Friendless Child" is a tense and emotional episode that deals with themes of grief, guilt, and redemption. The characters are forced to confront their past mistakes and try to make amends, even as they face new challenges and threats. The episode sets the stage for the final stretch of the series, as the characters' fates hang in the balance and the stakes get higher than ever before.
