Ep 2. Letting Go

When a young girl dies after a subway train strikes her, the team of medical examiners in Philadelphia's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are called to investigate. Dr. Megan Hunt (Dana Delaney), the lead medical examiner, and her team begin gathering evidence and performing an autopsy on the victim. As they work to piece together the circumstances of her death, they learn that the girl was homeless and struggling to survive on the streets.

As Megan examines the body, she becomes emotionally invested in the case, particularly when she discovers that the girl was pregnant. Megan and her team work tirelessly to find out who might have been responsible for her death, and to uncover the circumstances leading up to the accident. Along the way, they must sift through conflicting stories from witnesses and suspects, and navigate the complicated social dynamics of the homeless community.

As the investigation progresses, Megan becomes personally involved with one of the girl's close acquaintances, a man named Tom who is also homeless. Despite warnings from her colleagues that getting too close to the case could cloud her judgment, Megan persists in her efforts to help Tom and other homeless individuals in the city. She challenges her coworkers to think about the ways in which their work intersects with larger social issues, and struggles to balance her emotional involvement with her professional responsibilities.

Meanwhile, Megan also navigates personal struggles with her estranged husband, who is pressuring her to reconcile and move back to New York with him. Megan is torn between her love for her husband and her commitment to her work, and must decide whether to prioritize her personal life or her career.

Ultimately, the investigation leads to a surprising revelation that changes the course of the case and the lives of those involved. As Megan and her team come to terms with what they have discovered, they must grapple with the messy, complex nature of life and death, and the importance of letting go of what they cannot control.
