Born to Dance: Lauriann Gibson is a dance competition show that airs on BET. Laurieann Gibson is one of the most famous choregraphers in the world and she has worked with artists such as Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj. This show is a competition judged by Gibson in which twenty dancers compete against each other to prove themselves the best dancer in Gibson's eyes. The winner will be able to launch his or her career in Hollywood as a choreographer. The winning dancer also receives a substantial cash prize plus lessons and advice from Gibson herself.

Each week, the contestants face a different challenge and one dancer is eliminated from the show. Gibson teaches the dancers a new dance each week and they must learn the difficult choreography and keep up with her. Gibson is famous for her tough love approach to her students and her criticisms are often brutal and push the contestants to tears. She works her dancers into the ground and never gives them a break.

The dancers featured on the show come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Theresa is very young but she has been dancing since she was three. Shannon is a woman who can dance all types of styles, from latin and hip hop to ballroom and jazz. Lydia is a bit of prodigy, she has never received any formal training in dance but she makes the cut due to her natural talent. Kristin has a cheerleading background which gives her moves and spirit that the other girls do not have. Kaleila is one of the few dancers who has received a college education. Jahleeka is a single mother who teaches a pole dancing class. All of these women are good enough to catch Gibson's eye but only one is good enough to make it in Hollywood.
