Bottom is a British sitcom that originally aired on BBC2 from 1991 to 1995. The show featured two main characters, Eddie Hitler (played by Adrian Edmondson) and Richard Richard (played by Rik Mayall), who are flatmates and best friends. The series is known for its slapstick comedy, crude humor, and absurd situations.

The show took place in a run-down flat in Hammersmith, London. Eddie and Richard are two unemployed losers who constantly find themselves in ridiculous situations. They spend their time watching television, stealing from their neighbors, and trying to come up with get-rich-quick schemes. The two characters are completely mismatched, with Eddie being aggressive, violent and dim-witted and Richard being timid, pretentious and hopeless. The humor comes from the constant bickering and fighting between the two characters, as well as their pathetic attempts to escape their mundane existence.

Each episode was a self-contained story, with the majority of the episodes featuring the two characters getting into trouble with the law. Some of the more memorable episodes include the duo attempting to rob a bank, becoming involved in a voodoo ritual, and participating in a game show where the prize is a new house.

The show was known for its physical comedy, with Eddie and Richard often engaging in violent slapstick routines. The two characters were constantly hitting each other with objects, falling down stairs, and engaging in dangerous stunts. However, much of the humor came from the absurdity of the situations, such as when the two characters found themselves stuck in a tree, or when they accidentally set their flat on fire.

The show was controversial at the time of its release, due to its graphic language and sexual content. The two characters frequently made sexual jokes and engaged in crude behavior. However, the writers of the show defended their use of humor, arguing that it was a reflection of the characters' desperate and pathetic existence.

Despite its controversial nature, Bottom gained a cult following over the years. The show has been cited as an influence on contemporary comedy shows such as The Inbetweeners and Peep Show. Eddie and Richard have become two of the most beloved sitcom characters in British television history, due to their ridiculous behavior and hilarious interactions.
