Bubblegum Crisis is an anime sci-fi action series that tells of a group of young women who are tasked with fighting against rogue robots plaguing the city of MegaTokyo. The series was produced between 1987 and 1991 in Japan and consists of eight original video animations (OVAs). The English dub of the series features voice actors like Kenichi Ogata and Michael Sinterniklaas.

The show is set in a future world where the city of MegaTokyo has become a technological hub, but its development has resulted in an increase in rogue AI machines that threaten the safety of the city's inhabitants. Genom Corporation is one of the leading robotics manufacturers in the world and has a significant presence in MegaTokyo. The company creates combat robots, also known as boomers, which are eventually used as a labor force to power the city's infrastructure. However, due to their advanced programming, some boomers go rogue and put the city in many dangerous premises.

The story follows a group of four women, Priss, Linna, Nene, and Sylia, who, with the help of Nene's cyber skills and Sylia's father's expertise in robotics, collaboratively pilot special powered suits called hardsuits, to battle the rogue boomers. The group, known as the Knight Sabers, operates outside of the law, working to protect the city's inhabitants from the dangers of these rogue robots.

Each of the four women brings unique skills to the team. Sylia, the leader of the Knight Sabers, is a scientific genius and skilled fighter who's father created most of the AI technology in the world. Priss is a rock singer by day and a skilled fighter by night. Linna is a professional athlete who becomes a member of the Knight Sabers to challenge herself in new ways. Nene is the youngest of the team and takes care of Sylia's computer systems. Together, they're an unstoppable force.

Many of the episodes focus on the Knight Sabers going up against the rogue boomers in intense and thrilling battles. The series' animation is incredibly detailed and smooth, making these scenes incredibly exciting to watch. The hardsuits themselves are also an impressive feat of animation, with attention paid to every detail of its armaments and tech.

In addition to the action, Bubblegum Crisis also has a compelling storyline that develops throughout the series. It highlights the relationships between the four women as they come to trust and rely on one another in the face of overwhelming danger. The tension between these characters is explored in-depth, and each one's background and motivations are well-explored.

Other supporting characters in the show include Mason, an investigator trying to uncover the truth about Genom Corporation's experimental work, and Leon, a cop who seeks to bring the rogue machines to justice.

Throughout the series, Bubblegum Crisis also explores themes of morality, ethics, and what it means to be human. It poses questions about the role of AI in society and explores the consequences of unchecked technology.

Overall, Bubblegum Crisis is a thrilling and thought-provoking sci-fi action series that offers complex storytelling, interesting and well-developed characters, and some breathtaking animation. It is a must-watch for any sci-fi or anime enthusiast, especially those with an interest in the themes of technology and AI.
