Ep 5. Freeze Frame

In Californication season 4 episode 5, titled Freeze Frame, Hank (played by David Duchovny) finds himself in a precarious situation when he is invited to take part in a photoshoot for a popular men's magazine. Initially excited about the opportunity, he soon becomes uncomfortable when he learns that he will be expected to pose nude.

Meanwhile, Karen (played by Natascha McElhone) begins to suspect that something is going on between Hank and Felicia (played by Embeth Davidtz), her former professor and current employer. Despite her reservations, she agrees to attend a dinner party at Felicia's house, where she makes a shocking discovery.

As Hank struggles to come to terms with his reservations about the photoshoot, he also finds himself facing a challenge from Charlie (played by Evan Handler), who reveals that he has been working on a script about their wild times in New York. Initially resistant to the idea, Hank eventually agrees to collaborate on the project, leading to some surprising revelations along the way.

At the same time, Marcy (played by Pamela Adlon) continues to struggle with her addiction issues, jeopardizing her relationship with Stu (played by Stephen Tobolowsky) in the process. As Stu becomes increasingly frustrated with her behavior, Marcy finds herself forced to confront some difficult truths about herself and her addiction.

Throughout the episode, tensions continue to mount as Hank, Karen, and their friends navigate the rocky terrain of sex, drugs, and rock and roll in Los Angeles. Ultimately, Freeze Frame confronts some of the thorniest issues facing modern relationships, exploring the many challenges and rewards of living life on one's own terms.
