Ep 19. The Carnage in the North, Part 2

The episode "The Carnage in the North, Part 2" is the 19th episode of the first season of Claymore. The episode picks up from the events of the last episode, where the northern city of Pieta has been attacked by awakened beings, who were led by the Awakened One Riful.

As the episode starts, the Claymores are engaged in a fierce battle against the awakened beings. Claire, Miria, and Helen continue their fight against Riful while the other Claymores fight against the remaining Awakened Ones. Miria tells Clare to use her Quicksword technique, which allows Claire to move at such a speed that even other Claymores cannot keep up. With this technique, Claire successfully wounds Riful, but the Awakened One regenerates promptly.

As the battle rages on, the situation becomes more precarious. More and more warriors fall, and the situation looks hopeless. However, Flora, the number nine Claymore, reveals that she has an ace in the hole. She tells her fellow warriors that she has prepared a trap that can destroy all the Awakened Ones at once. The only condition is that they must hold off the Awakened Ones long enough for her to activate the trap. Despite her being initially reluctant, the others reluctantly agree to the plan.

Meanwhile, Riful unleashes her full power and transforms into a grotesque monster that towers over the battlefield. In this form, Riful is almost invincible and practically immune to the other Claymores' attacks. Claire uses her Quicksword technique once again and manages to strike the Awakened One with a mortal blow. But, without regenerating much of her body, Riful continues to fight.

As the battle continues, the awakened beings attack more fiercely, and the Claymores struggle to keep up. Deneve, who previously dealt with the Awakened One Dauf and wounded him gravely, finds herself facing off against a newly awakened version of Dauf, who is even stronger than before. Deneve initially shows trepidation but facing Dauf ultimately set to her resolve and fuels the desire to defeat him using all her strength.

As the episode reaches its climax, Flora activates the trap, which engulfs all of the Awakened Ones in a massive explosion. The plan seems to succeed as Flora's trap destroys all the Awakened Ones. However, it soon becomes apparent that the transformation of Riful leaves her beyond such mortal devices as the traps that destroyed the others. Meanwhile, Flora struggles against Riful, but the Awakened One easily overpowers her. Morose and done in by the fact that she couldn't save her fellow warriors paired with the shock from Riful's attack, Clare attempts a suicidal attack, which Riful counterbalances.

As the sun rises, the Claymores’ losses stand at nine warriors. Riful inspects the aftermath of the destruction is far from satisfied by her victory. She lashes out at Clare, who just barely survives. Clare awakens from unconsciousness and vows to fight Riful with all her strength and power. The episode ends with Clare's determination.
