As lovebirds, we all know that love is not always a bed of roses. It requires patience, communication, commitment, understanding, and a litany of virtues that can stand the test of time. For couples in the most incredible bliss, they will tell you unequivocally that their love is perfect. But as reality dawns, the lovebirds realize that they have to put their love to the test if it must survive. In the show Couples Therapy, this feat is mystically unraveled, and couples are given unlimited access to flush out their issues, heal, and spice up their love life.

In the sixth episode titled "Putting Love to the Test," we're introduced to couples whose love has hit rock bottom, and they desperately need to breathe life into it. Dr. Jenn Mann has her work cut out, taking the couple's fears head-on and trying to rekindle their love. After weeks of therapy sessions, the couples gain renewed hope and optimism and are ready to put their love to the test.

The first couple to take on this challenge is Jenna and John, who have been married for four years. Since their marriage fell into a rough patch, the couple has faced a myriad of challenges. In therapy, Jenna has learned to express her feelings more constructively, but John still bottles up his emotions. For the ultimate love test, the couple is strapped with lie detectors and tasked to explore the deepest secrets in their marriage. Will these tests strengthen their bond, or will they cause their demise?

The second couple we meet is Carmen and Adrian, who have been together for four years. Carmen puts her faith in therapy to help her understand why Adrian shuts her out, suffers from depression and is always irritable. Even with Dr. Jenn Mann's guidance, Carmen still carries the burden of lack of trust, plaguing her unhealed wounds. During the test of love, the couple must undertake to communicate about their unmet needs, wants, and desires.

The third couple is YMH's Tom Segura and Christina Pazsitzky. The two have been married for 7 years and have two children. During the therapy sessions, Christina opens up to Dr. Jenn Mann concerning Tom's lack of emotional presence, which leaves her feeling lonely and abandoned. Based on their conversations in the therapy room, it is evident that there is a communication gap and the couple struggles to understand each other. During the love test, Tom and Christina are tasked to switch roles in which Christina takes up Tom's job to see if she can be as less emotional as he is and Tom takes up Christina's job, which requires a lot of emotional labor. Will this test help the couple understand each other better, or will it backfire?

Fourth on the list are Katherine and Cody. The two have been married 11 years and have two children. An incident in which Katherine found Cody's revealing texts to another woman led to trust and intimacy issues. In the therapy sessions, they both confess that they have not been intimate as they used to be and don't know how to reignite the spark. During the test, Katherine and Cody are assigned to do a striptease in front of each other. Will this be the stepping stone to their mislaid love?

Lastly, the therapist, Dr. Jenn Mann meets Taylor and John. Taylor vaguely acknowledges something that had gone on between her and John which has made her doubt his loyalty. John maintains he never cheated on Taylor and is ready to take a lie detector test. In one of the therapy sessions, the couple disagrees on the gender of the therapist they prefer. During the testing of love, the couple is tasked with watching their favorite TV show together, and they are struck with an unexpected emotional twist.

In the end, Dr. Jenn checks in with the couples and the viewers witness the progress each couple has made since the beginning of their therapy. Whether they have found their happy ending or not, one thing is for sure; the love test pushed the couples to put their own vulnerabilities and worth to the test. In Couples Therapy, viewers are given a glimpse of the fragility of love and the unwavering strength that committed and empowered couples can offer each other.
