Ep 10. Uh Oh, Out Come The Skeletons

In the second season of Damages, Episode 10 named "Uh Oh, Out Come The Skeletons", a lot of a lot of things happening in the lives of Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) and Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne). The story begins with the FBI arresting one of David Connor's (Noah Bean) friends, which leads them to a website where wealthy men meet Eastern European women. The FBI agent, Werner (John Doman), who has been trying to get information regarding Patty's involvement in the case, views this as another mechanism that Patty may be utilizing to funnel funds.

Elsewhere in the episode, Patty visits her estranged father, whom she has not spoken to in years, after hearing that he has cancer. Her father is extremely critical of her career choices, but she is unfazed and wants to create a reconciliation. Her father gives her a box of childhood memories and also informs her that her son plans to marry, but he is not sure if it is to a man or a woman. This revelation visibly upsets Patty.

Meanwhile, Ellen continues her liaison with Wes (Timothy Olyphant), the man in charge of the case against Patty. She is continually feeding him information, and in this episode, she provides him with the information that Patty has visited her father. Wes is not pleased and sees this as a potential weakness that he can use against Patty. Ellen also rekindles her relationship with her ex-fiancé, David, and they have sex.

In one of the more dramatic scenes, Arthur Frobisher (Ted Danson), who is testifying in his lawsuit, gives the defense team a letter that he received from Gregory Malina (Peter Facinelli) offering to testify against Patty for a fee. The defense jumps on this and confronts Patty with the letter. Patty is unfazed and challenges them to produce Malina. They end up finding him in a mental institution, where he tells them that he lied in the letter because he was promised a lighter sentence. This revelation jeopardizes the defense's case, as they now have an unreliable witness.

As the episode comes to an end, we witness Ellen delivering confidential files to Wes, and Patty having a talk with her son about his upcoming nuptials. The episode sets the stage for dramatic consequences, as the battle between Patty and Ellen's loyalty towards her will ultimately lead to a major showdown.
