Daphne in the brilliant blue is a Japanese animated program (Anime) in which thanks to the effects of global warming. The vast majority of the world is covered in water and of the human race now lives on floating cities that heroine of the story is an orphan named Maia Mizuki a 15-year-old girl who has just graduated middle school, but has already put in to become an agent for the Ocean agency, which is a government agency that only accepts the best and brightest of the population, Maia is on the fast track to becoming one of these elite agents. That is until her world is catastrophically turned upside down she mysteriously fails. The entrance exam to the Ocean agency is evicted from her home pick pocketed and taken hostage and to make matters worse she gets shot.

Just as she is looking directly into an abyss of despair and hopelessness she is rescued by Rena and Shizuka two highly eccentric females that are part of the mercenary help for hire organization known as Nereids, which is staffed by even more eccentric and specialized individuals that are far from what society would consider to be normal by any stretch of the imagination the members of this organization will take any job that comes their way from catching wanted criminals to returning stray cats to their owners. As long as it will make them money all of their jobs usually culminate in a highly unexpected and often hilarious outcomes and because our heroine Maia is severely lacking in any other option she joins the agency and does her level best to try and fit in with his unique brand of individuals that she often does not understand and cannot relate to. At least not at first, although unexpected bonds and friendships are formed due to the danger and narrow escapes that the team often experiences.
