Ep 1. Mother & Child Reunion - Part 1

As a newly-resurrected series, Degrassi season 1 premieres with the two-part episode "Mother & Child Reunion." We are introduced to Emma Nelson (Miriam McDonald), a bright and sweet 12-year-old girl who has grown up in a single-parent household with her mother, Spike (Amanda Stepto). Emily is about to start junior high and is excited about finally being able to join the cheerleading squad with her best friend Manny (Cassie Steele). However, she also feels a little apprehensive about the unknown challenges that come with adolescence.

On her first day of school, Emma catches the eye of Sean (Daniel Clark), a bad boy with a motorcycle who seems to be a little too cool for school. Despite her reservations about his reputation, Emma finds herself drawn to Sean and the two of them become fast friends. Meanwhile, Spike is dealing with her own issues: she's been offered a promotion at her job, but it's in a different city and she's unsure if she wants to uproot her family.

Over the course of the episode, we see Emma navigate the complicated world of junior high, from dealing with mean girls to trying to impress her crush. She also struggles with her relationship with her mother, who seems to be preoccupied with work and is often distracted when Emma tries to talk to her. Despite this, Emma remains optimistic and optimistic about the future.

As the episode comes to a close, Emma is excited to attend a school dance and has even gotten her mom's permission to wear makeup for the first time. However, her evening takes a turn for the worse when she discovers that Sean has been keeping a secret from her. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, leaving us eager to see what happens in the next part of the premiere.

Overall, "Mother & Child Reunion - Part 1" is a promising start to Degrassi's first season. The show is able to capture the complexities of adolescence without being overly cheesy or dramatic, and the characters are all well-developed and engaging.
