Description:

The Doctor Who series revived by Russel T. Davies features the exploits of a strange and extraordinary man called the Doctor, an alien Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey in possession of a space craft called the TARDIS. The TARDIS, which appears in the form of a blue police call box, has the power to travel through not only space but also time. With a usually human companion in tow the Doctor travels through space and time and sometimes even to other universes in search of new adventures. He is feared throughout the universe and history by his enemies and known by his friends as a savior of planets and people. Where there is a problem the Doctor usually arrives in the nick of time with a solution, resolved to right all wrongs.

With a regenerative power that allows him to come back to life with a new body after death, the Doctor is in his eleventh incarnation and his third since the new series began. The Doctor has been portrayed in this series by Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith. He has had four main companions through the BBC shows seven seasons and specials: Rose played by Billie Piper, Martha played by Freema Agyeman, Donna played by Catherine Tate, and Amy played by Karen Gillan. Doctor Who changed show runners with frequent episode writer Steven Moffat taking over when 10th Doctor David Tennant left the show and Matt Smith took on the mantle of the Doctor.

Each season has an overarching plot to tie it together, peppered throughout with standalone episodes. On his varied adventures the Doctor and his traveling companions encounter historical figures, exotic alien creatures and everyday people in settings ranging anywhere from distant bizarre locales to quiet little country villages. Although his companions and even the actors portraying him change, the character and concept of the Doctor and his iconic blue TARDIS remain as the unifying elements and staples of this fan favorite cult classic.
