In season 5, episode 2 of Dog Whisperer, dog behaviorist Cesar Millan works with two very different cases: Cricket the Greyhound and Hemingway & Rigby the two terriers.

The episode begins with Cesar meeting Cricket and her owners, a family who recently rescued the Greyhound from a racetrack. The family is struggling to deal with Cricket's high energy levels and anxiety, which is causing her to destroy furniture and act out towards other animals. Cesar quickly observes that Cricket is lacking structure and leadership in her life, and sets out to teach the family the importance of exercise, discipline, and affection in their interactions with their dog. Through a series of exercises, including one where he helps them establish boundaries through basic obedience training, Cesar helps the family regain control over Cricket and their household.

In the second half of the episode, Cesar meets Hemingway & Rigby, a pair of Jack Russell Terriers who have taken on the role of "protectors" of their owners' home. However, this has also led to aggressive behaviors towards strangers and other dogs that come into their territory. Cesar sees that Hemingway & Rigby's sense of "guarding" has gone too far, and sets out to teach the dogs how to relax and trust their owners to handle any potential threats. Through techniques like leash work, socialization and exposure therapy, Cesar helps Hemingway & Rigby learn to calm down and let go of their overly-protective instincts.

Throughout the episode, viewers see Cesar's unique insight into the canine mind at work, as he uses his methods to help these troubled dogs and their owners. He emphasizes the importance of establishing trust and respect between the owner and the dog, as well as setting clear boundaries and providing consistent leadership. In the end, both the families and their dogs are left with a newfound sense of harmony and balance.
