Doug was a beloved animated series that aired on ABC from 1991 to 1994. It followed the adventures of a young and imaginative boy named Doug Funnie, who lived in the fictional town of Bluffington. Becca Lish voiced the character of Patti Mayonnaise, Doug's crush and best friend. Billy West gave life to Doug Funnie and was also well-known for his roles in various other animated series such as Futurama and Ren & Stimpy. Alice Playten played the sassy and popular Beebe Bluff, Doug's classmate and daughter of the wealthiest family in town.

Doug's parents were also main characters in the show, with Doris Belack as Theda Funnie, Doug's caring and supportive mother, and Doug Preis as Phil Funnie, Doug's mild-mannered and quirky father who was often seen tinkering in his homemade inventions.

Other notable voice actors included Fran Brill as Ms. Wingo, Doug's strict and quirky English teacher, Fred Newman as Skeeter, Doug's best friend and partner in crime, Greg Lee as Roger Klotz, Doug's antagonist and the school bully, and Jeff Bergman as Porkchop, Doug's loyal and intelligent pet dog.

The show followed Doug through his everyday life, navigating the ups and downs of middle school, from trying to impress his crush to navigating difficult friendships and facing bullies. Through his imagination and love for writing, Doug often created elaborate fantasies where he was a superhero or a rock star, allowing viewers into his creative and imaginative mind.

The show was known for its heartwarming and wholesome themes, with valuable lessons on friendship, family and perseverance. It tackled hard-hitting topics such as bullying, peer pressure, and fitting in, while still maintaining a light and humorous tone. Doug's narration throughout the show gave it a unique and personal touch, as his inner thoughts were revealed to the audience.

The show had a distinct and colorful animation style that was easy on the eyes, with quirky character designs that set it apart from other animated shows at the time. Its catchy theme song, "Doug's Got A Brand New Pair Of Shoes", became a fan favorite and exemplified the show's upbeat and fun-loving vibe.

Doug's popularity led to a spin-off series, Disney's Doug, which premiered on Disney Channel in 1996, and a feature film, Doug's 1st Movie, which released in 1999.

Overall, Doug was a beloved animated series that gained a cult following during its original run on ABC. Its wholesome, relatable characters and heartwarming themes make it a timeless classic in the world of animated television.
