The show Dream On revolves around the life of Martin Tupper, a book editor in New York City. The first episode, aptly titled "The First Episode," introduces us to Martin and sets the tone for the rest of the series.

We first meet Martin as he is going through a rough patch in his personal life. His ex-wife Judith is in town, and Martin is struggling to move on from their failed marriage. He spends most of his time reminiscing about the past and trying to win Judith back. However, Judith is now in a new relationship and has moved on from Martin.

As Martin navigates his personal life, he is also dealing with the ups and downs of his professional life. He works for a publishing company that is in the midst of a merger, and Martin is worried about his job security. In addition, he is constantly dealing with difficult authors who are unhappy with the way their books are being edited.

Throughout the episode, we see Martin's vivid imagination come to life. He has a tendency to daydream about his past, and these flashbacks are interwoven throughout the episode. We see young Martin in high school, on his first date, and even meeting Judith for the first time. These flashbacks provide a glimpse into Martin's past and give us a better understanding of his character.

The episode also introduces us to Martin's best friend Eddie, who is his polar opposite. Eddie is a womanizer and a bit of a party animal, while Martin is more reserved and introverted. Despite their differences, the two have been friends for years and provide a good balance for each other.

As the episode progresses, we see Martin start to come to terms with his divorce and move on with his life. He goes on a date with a woman he meets at a bookstore and starts to see that there is life beyond Judith. He also learns that his job is safe and that the merger will be a positive change for the company.

Overall, "The First Episode" sets the stage for what is to come in the rest of the series. We see Martin's struggles both personally and professionally and how he navigates these obstacles with the help of his friends and his imagination. The episode is funny, insightful, and a great introduction to the world of Dream On.
