Durarara!! is a modern-day Japanese anime and light novel series that tells a story of the interconnected lives of different characters involved in the underworld of Tokyo, Japan. The anime series has been produced by Aniplex, and it first premiered in 2010. The series features an ensemble cast of talented voice actors, including Jun Fukuyama, Hiroshi Kamiya, Mamoru Miyano, Ayahi Takagaki, Kana Hanazawa, Daisuke Ono, Kazuma Horie, Yuichi Nakamura, Sanae Kobayashi, and Miyuki Sawashiro.

The plot of Durarara!! follows the everyday lives of several colorful characters living in the city of Ikebukuro, Tokyo, each with its unique backstory, which intersects with others. The story line begins with Mikado Ryuugamine, a timid high school student who moves from his hometown to Tokyo to attend high school. Mikado takes an interest in the city's urban legends after his childhood friend, Masaomi Kida, introduces him to a mysterious online chat room about Ikebukuro's underworld.

As Mikado immerses himself into the city's mysterious world, he becomes more involved in its intricate web of life, which includes street gangs, underground organizations, and supernatural beings. He crosses paths with Izaya Orihara, an information broker who feeds on the conflicts within the city, and Shizuo Heiwajima, a former prizefighter who possesses inhuman strength and an uncontrolled temper. Another character, Celty Sturluson, a Dullahan, a headless fairy, seeks her head, which was stolen from her.

The anime focuses on the lives of several key characters who become intertwined in the mysteries of the city. Mikado, the protagonist, is an outsider in Ikebukuro, but he becomes involved with the city's underworld after meeting Izaya. Masaomi Kida is Mikado's best friend and is the leader of a street gang called the Yellow Scarves. The young woman Anri Sonohara is initially shy and quiet but eventually becomes embroiled in the city's violent clashes. There is also Celty Sturluson, the Dullahan, who has a mysterious past that involves being involved in criminal activities.

One of the unique features of Durarara!! is that it presents the story through a non-linear narrative that often jumps back and forth in time, to give the characters' backstories and the whole story's full picture.

The soundtrack of Durarara!! is quite excellent and features the works of Makoto Yoshimori, who created beautifully atmospheric pieces with a wide range of instruments from string quartets to electric guitars. The opening theme song, "Uragiri no Yuuyake," is a fast-paced rock song performed by Theatre Brook, which sets the tone for each episode's action-packed scenes.

In conclusion, Durarara!! is an anime that stands out due to its complex plotting and ensemble cast of characters. It is a show that requires attention to detail as it weaves a complex web of personal relationships and dangerous conspiracies that make it compelling to watch. With its excellent animation, well-written script, and an exceptional soundtrack, Durarara!! is a show that can engross any anime fan, making it a must-watch even today.
