In Eastbound and Down's second episode of the first season titled "Chapter 2," we see the return of former professional baseball player, Kenny Powers. The episode begins with Powers arriving at North Carolina after leaving the Mexican baseball league.

Kenny Powers, played by the show's co-creator Danny McBride, is a crude, vulgar, and narcissistic character. With his baseball career in shambles, Powers has made his way back to his hometown with high hopes of making a comeback. However, he quickly realizes that things are not what they used to be.

Powers visits his old flamboyant high school friend, now gym teacher, Stevie Janowski, played by Steve Little. Stevie is pleased to see Kenny but also surprised that Kenny has come back after leaving under terrible circumstances years ago. Kenny has to deal with Stevie's questions about the past while coping with his failed career.

The episode also introduces April Buchanon, played by Katy Mixon, who was a former high school flame of Kenny's, and who is now engaged to the school's new principal, Terrence Cutler, played by Andrew Daly. Kenny's resentment towards Terrence increases throughout the episode, and by the end, he is determined to win April back.

We see Kenny struggling with his situation as a former athlete who has failed to launch into anything 'meaningful' after his game days are over. As he navigates his new life, he still fantasies about his past: the fame, the money, and the love that came with being a celebrity athlete. However, Kenny's big ego and unwillingness to adapt to his new circumstances often lead him to trouble.

In "Chapter 2," we see Kenny's destructive tendencies and his inability to take responsibility for anything that has gone wrong in his career. He often blames others, including his former teams, coaches, and even the bat-boy for his failures. It is this fragile self-worth that drives Kenny to make terrible decisions.

"Chapter 2" ends with Kenny trying to win April back by joining the school's softball team instead of coaching. He is desperate to regain the attention and the admiration he once had. Whether or not Kenny is successful remains to be seen in the upcoming episodes.

Overall, "Chapter 2" gives audiences a glimpse of Kenny Powers' flawed character, personal struggles, and unique sense of humor. The episode is a great follow-up to the show's pilot and sets up a promising storyline for the rest of the season.
