Emperor of the Sea is a historical drama series that was aired on KBS America from 2004 to 2005, starring Choi Soo-jong, Song Il-kook, Chae Shi-ra, and Soo Ae. The story is set in the 13th century, during the reign of King Chungnyeol in Goryeo Dynasty Korea. It follows the life of Jang Bo-go, played by Choi Soo-jong, who is a commoner born in a small coastal town. Despite numerous hardships, Jang Bo-go grows to become a great merchant and sailor, and eventually earns the trust and respect of King Chungnyeol.

As Jang Bo-go becomes more successful, he gains many enemies who try to bring him down. One of his biggest rivals is Dae Soh, played by Song Il-kook, who is also a merchant and sailor. Dae Soh is determined to take over Jang Bo-go's business and become the most powerful merchant in the land.

In addition to the rivalry between Jang Bo-go and Dae Soh, there is also a love triangle between Jang Bo-go, Yeomjang, played by Chae Shi-ra, and Jung-hwa, played by Soo Ae. Yeomjang is a wealthy merchant who falls in love with Jang Bo-go, but he is more interested in Jung-hwa, who is a beautiful courtesan.

Throughout the series, Jang Bo-go faces many challenges and obstacles, including brutal pirates, a corrupt government, and internal power struggles within his own company. Despite all of this, he remains determined to build his empire and protect his family and friends.

The show features stunning cinematography and beautiful costumes, which help bring the world of Goryeo Dynasty Korea to life. The characters are complex and well-developed, making it easy for viewers to become emotionally invested in their stories.
