Ep 6. Sandy

Enlightened season 1 episode 6, titled "Sandy," follows Amy Jellicoe (played by Laura Dern) as she attempts to make amends with a former coworker, Sandy (played by Robin Wright) who she had an unpleasant encounter with in the past.

Amy's journey towards enlightenment and personal growth has been uphill so far, as she tries to adjust to her new lifestyle following a emotional breakdown. She feels the need to reconnect with her old workplace and the people she used to know.

In this episode, Amy tries to make amends with Sandy after a disastrous meeting between the two which was an integral part of her downfall. Although Amy claims she wants to make peace with all the people she had troubled relationships with in her past, viewers can tell that her real motive is to prove that she can make peace with someone who hates her. Her efforts to reach out to Sandy eventually impress her boss at her new job, Damon (played by Charles Esten), who had become wary of her intentions.

However, things do not go according to plan when she meets Sandy in person. Sandy is angry with Amy and defensive about her actions. Their conversation quickly turns hostile and they hurl insults at each other until the tension reaches a boiling point.

During this disagreement, both women scream at each other about what really happened the first time they met, airing out their grievances and frustrations. It is only then that the truth of their past animosity is revealed, and we see that Amy's history of self-deceit, ignorance, and manipulation was the cause of all their past troubles.

As the episode progresses, it becomes clear that Amy is not the only one with struggles and that Sandy herself is dealing with her own demons. As they hash out their past differences, the two begin to talk about their current lives and experiences, which leads to a moment of self-reflection for both of them. They realize they share a common struggle and bond over it.

By the end of the episode, Amy and Sandy have found common ground. Amy's attempts to make amends with Sandy were not entirely self-centered- she has genuinely grown and matured to the point where she can reconcile and forgive them both.
