Ray's Ring is the fourth episode of the sixth season of the popular family sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, which first aired on October 15, 2001. As the episode opens, the Barone family is sitting down to dinner when Ray announces that he has lost his wedding ring. Everyone at the table seems unconcerned, except for Debra, who is clearly upset by the news. She tries to play it cool, but her frustration reveals itself in the way she peppers Ray with questions, wondering how he could possibly lose something that means so much to them.

Ray is surprisingly nonchalant about the whole thing, telling everyone that it's no big deal and that the ring probably just fell off his finger somewhere. But Debra isn't so easily convinced. She starts to obsess over the ring, poring through the garbage and even enlisting the help of the family dog, who she thinks might have found the ring and buried it somewhere in the backyard. Ray, meanwhile, continues to insist that losing the ring is not a big deal and that they can simply buy a new one.

Despite Ray's attempts to brush off the whole thing, Debra's anxiety continues to escalate. She launches a full-scale search of the house, convinced that the ring has to be somewhere. She even goes so far as to hire a metal detector operator to search their yard, though the operator ultimately comes up empty-handed. Each time Debra's irrationality becomes more apparent, Ray becomes more and more frustrated with her, even to the point of accusing her of being the reason why he loses things. He lists off all of his possessions that he has lost in their marriage, and then he insists that if anyone should have lost their ring, it should have been Debra because she is so clumsy.

The tension between them finally reaches a boiling point when Ray accuses Debra of not trusting him. He tells her that it hurts him that she doesn't believe that he lost the ring accidentally. They have a particularly heated argument in which they voice their anxieties and grievances about the message behind their lost ring. Debra believes that they are losing their marriage and that the ring was a symbolic indicator of their unity, while Ray argues that he doesn't understand why the ring is so important when they still have each other.

Despite their intense disagreement, however, the episode ends on a heartwarming note, revealing that the ring wasn't lost after all. Their daughter, Ally, had played a trick on Ray by slipping the ring off of his finger while he was napping and hiding it in his chair. When she reveals the prank to her parents, they both laugh in relief and the tension between them disappears. The episode ends with Ray affectionately reaching across the table to hold Debra's hand, symbolizing that their bond as a couple is unbreakable.

Overall, the episode serves as a commentary on how small things can become big issues if they aren't communicated to and understood by one's partner. Ray and Debra's interactions show how people might cope with losing something that is so important to them and how arguments can easily arise if misinterpreted. The episode portrays the pain and frustration that people might deal with when they think that trust and commitment has been breached, and the importance of discussing any anxieties that stem from this.
