Henry Louis Gates Jr. is a Harvard professor who enjoys the wonder of what the past holds. Like an archaeologist digs in the dirt in order to find the buried treasures of yesteryears living inhabitants, Professor Gates digs into the ancestrial past of 12 renown Americans to discover how they came to be. Professor Gates Jr. uses the lastest technology available in genealogical research to find the ancestrial lineage of people like Chef Mario Batali, Her Majesty Queen Nor, Musician Yo-Yo Ma and nine other very talented Americans whose life and career has enhance the history of America.

This documentary is aired as a four episode series. Throughout the episodes you will come to understand how America was made through its interaction with immigrants and how an immigrant's interaction with America helped shaped the future. Professor Gates Jr. provides written historical documentation, as well as, DNA test results to link the past to the present as far back as it will go.
