Fatal Encounters is an Investigation Discovery channel original series. Each episode is approximately one hour long. Subject material is based on the relationship between killer and victim and may be disturbing for some viewers.
This is a documentary style program that showcases dramatized recreations of the lives of the people involved. The show also contains interviews with the friends and family of the victims and killers as well as the police and detectives involved with the case.
Each episode begins with a background on the lives of the killer and the victim. An on-screen countdown clock allows you to view the victim's final actions in a time-line format. This allows you to see just what incidents occured to lead up to their fatal encounter. Time per case is different, some ranging from minutes to years before the final act of violence is commited.
All episodes are different and showcase one criminal event. In some instances the victims are strangers who may happen to cross paths while on vacation. Other cases show friendships that turn to jealousy. Almost all shows end in murder.
One case looks at a woman who is so desperate to have a baby that she plans the search for a pregnant woman and befriend her. This allows the killer time to surgically remove the woman's baby and claim it as her own. Another episode looks at a group of friends that work together in the adult movie industry. None were greatly successful but when one becomes down on his luck and turns to violence, it spells murder for one of his ex-friends.
Each Fatal Encounter episode ends with the resolution to the case. Most times the episode has a tragic ending but, there are a few when the intended victim manages to get away and the criminal is caught.
