Final Witness

Final Witness is true crime focused U.S. television series produced and broadcast by the ABC network. The weekly show combines both documentary and dramatic elements as they relate to various real life murders, told from the victim's point of view.

Episodes include interviews with the deceased person's family, friends, witnesses, law enforcement officers, and prosecutors. Actors are featured in scripted reenactment scenes.

Episode one featured Terry Caffey, who was shot five times by a home intruder. His house was in flames as he arrived at a neighbor's house for help. He tells his neighbor that he knows who killed his family and the story centers around discovering who the perpetrators were.

In episode two, the New Orleans police are summoned after a person has fallen to their death at the Omni Hotel. Police discover a young man's body with a note explaining that he had to take his own life for the one he took. A year prior, war veteran, musician and bartender, Zack Bowen had met dance teacher Addie Hall. The suicide note directed the police to find Addie's mutilated body. Zach strangled her two weeks prior. Pleas for help were sprayed on the for his total failure.

The next story centered around an unidentified boy in a Waldport, Oregon river. The woman who called the police said his name was Zachery and she knew his family. The investigation reveals suitcases with the bodies of his mother, MaryJane, and sisters Madison and Sadie. Their father, Christian, had stolen industrial equipment and committed check fraud. When his wife discovered this, he killed the entire family. Tracked by the FBI to Mexico, Christian was posing as a reporter for the New York Times and promptly arrested.

Another story featured policeman Glenn Turner, who died unexpectedly in Dekalb County, Georgia, apparently from heart failure. His wife, Lynn Turner, had an affair with firefighter, Randy Thompson. After Lynn divorced Glenn, she married Randy and they had children. After he dies, suspicions arise and autopsy results link the deaths. Lynn had tainted Jell-O with chemicals that Glen consumed, and poisoned ice tea that Randy drank. While imprisoned for the murders, she committed suicide.

Shot on location from around the globe, the show features an indie-band soundtrack.

Adam Feinstein and Rudy Bednar have directed the episodes in a cinema verite style. Writers for the series have included Elise Greven and Ben Robbins.
