The television series entitled Flames of desire is centered on the challenges of a large extended family. The family members have always been living in harmony with one another but things start taking a different turn when a battle for inheritance begins. The head of the family Kim Tae was the president of the family business which is a large family fortune, however after his death his children decide to use power and influence over the other family members and keep everything for themselves. They plan to achieve their selfish ambitions even in the most ruthless manner.

The leader and main force behind all this cruelty is Yoon, the wife of Kim Young who is Kim Tae's third son. Yoon's hunger for power and riches cause her to influence her husband to support her and execute her evil plans.

Yoon Na-young is the main female character of the series who has very evil intentions but always hides it behind her beautiful and innocent looking smiles. She has the most unpredictable personality and unlike her mother who is very kind hearted and cares about others Yoon is very self centered. She believes that for her to achieve what she wants in life she should hurt others and live with guilt the rest of her life.

Baek Soo is Yoon's daughter but she does not want anybody not even her husband to find out that she has a daughter. Baek is a successful actress who is very popular among her fans. She is married to Min-jae but her joy is not complete due to the secrets of the past.

Kim Young-min is known for his calm and kind personality. He always tries to maintain peace and unity in the family. He enjoyed living a quiet life until he was forced by his father to marry the troublesome and evil hearted Yoon. Since he married her he has never known peace and lives in misery.
