In the first episode of the supernatural crime drama Forever Knight, we are introduced to the show's central character, Nick Knight (Geraint Wyn Davies), a 800-year-old vampire who has renounced his blood-sucking ways and become a Toronto police detective. Nick is haunted by his past and is searching for redemption by using his unique abilities to protect humanity from the very evil he once embodied.

We join Nick in 1992 as he is starting his new job with the police department. He meets his new partner, Don Schanke (John Kapelos), a loud and boisterous detective, and their captain, Joe Stonetree (Nigel Bennett), who is initially skeptical of Nick but eventually comes to appreciate his skills and dedication to the job.

While investigating a series of brutal murders, Nick and Don soon realize that they are dealing with something far more sinister than a typical homicide. The killer seems to be targeting prostitutes and is leaving behind strange symbols and markings at each crime scene. Nick recognizes these symbols as part of an ancient vampire cult that he used to belong to prior to his transformation.

As Nick dives deeper into the investigation, he is confronted with his past and the dark temptations that come with being a vampire. His former lover and fellow vampire, Janette (Deborah Duchene), reappears in his life, tempting him with her seductive ways and urging him to abandon his life as a human and fully embrace his vampire side once again.

Nick struggles with his desires and his duty to protect the innocent, but ultimately chooses to remain true to his newfound humanity. With the help of Don and Stonetree, he is able to track down the vampire cult and put an end to the killings.

The episode ends with Nick contemplating his life and his mission to use his vampire powers for good. He knows that his past will continue to haunt him, but he is determined to continue on his path of redemption and protect the people of Toronto from the vampire underworld that he used to be a part of.

Overall, the first episode of Forever Knight sets up an intriguing premise that combines both police procedural drama and supernatural horror. The character of Nick Knight is complex and compelling, and his struggles with his vampiric nature add an extra layer of depth to the show. The supporting cast also shows promise, with Don Schanke providing both comic relief and a grounded human perspective, while Joe Stonetree adds a no-nonsense toughness to the mix.

The episode is well-paced, with plenty of action and suspense to keep viewers engaged, and the underlying mystery of the vampire cult adds a sense of foreboding that promises to carry over into future episodes. All in all, Dark Knight (1) is a strong start to what promises to be a unique and captivating series.
