Foyle's War season 3 episode 1 is titled "The French Drop." The episode opens in 1940 with Christopher Foyle, now a Major in the British Army, being interviewed for a job in MI5. His interviewer, Sir Alec Meyrick, is concerned about the level of Nazi espionage in Britain and hopes to use Foyle's investigative skills to catch them.

Meanwhile, back in Hastings, Foyle's former driver Samantha Stewart is now working for the government as a translator. She intercepts a message from a French contact named Jacques Devereux, who is attempting to pass on intelligence about the German invasion of France. Samantha takes the information to Foyle, who agrees to help.

Foyle and Samantha travel to London to meet with Devereux, but when they arrive, they discover that he has been killed. The only clue is a photograph of a woman wearing a distinctive necklace. Foyle and Samantha set out to uncover the woman's identity and her connection to Devereux.

Their investigation leads them to a French nightclub in Soho, where Foyle meets a woman named Lucie Brett. He realizes that she is the woman in the photograph, and that she is also a spy. Foyle questions her and learns that she was working for the French Resistance, but became disillusioned when they were forced to collaborate with the Germans. She agreed to work for the Germans in exchange for the safety of her daughter.

Foyle believes that Lucie may have valuable information about German operations in Britain, so he arranges for her to be transferred to MI5 custody. But during the journey, Lucie manages to escape, leading to a dramatic chase through the streets of London.

Meanwhile, Foyle's daughter-in-law, who works for a local MP, is confronted by a group of Fascists who accuse her of being a traitor for having a Jewish husband. Foyle's son, Andrew, intervenes and manages to disperse the crowd, but not before his wife is deeply shaken.

Back in London, Foyle and Samantha continue to track Lucie. They eventually find her hiding in a church, where they confront her with evidence that she has been working for the Germans all along. Lucie confesses, and Foyle is able to extract important information from her that will help MI5 counter German espionage in Britain.

"The French Drop" is a tense and thrilling episode that showcases the skill and determination of Foyle and Samantha as they work to protect Britain from Nazi infiltration. The episode raises important questions about the nature of espionage and the sacrifices that people are willing to make in times of war. Overall, it is a compelling and thought-provoking addition to the Foyle's War series.
