Haruka, Makoto, Nagisa, and Rin begin preparing for their first swim meet as a team. Rin, still harboring resentment towards Haruka, refuses to swim in the medley relay with him and instead swims the freestyle for the individual competition. Meanwhile, the team struggles to find a fourth member for the relay. After some failed attempts, they are introduced to Rei, a student who is passionate about science and unused to swimming but eager to help the team. Rei joins the team as their fourth member despite his lack of experience. The team trains vigorously, with Rin consistently coming in first during practice. Haruka becomes increasingly nervous, fearing that he will disappoint his team. The day of the meet arrives and tensions run high. In the end, the Iwatobi Swim Club is able to pull off a victory in the relay with the help of Rei, and Haruka is able to overcome his fears and earn a victory in his individual race. The episode ends with the team celebrating their victory and Rin beginning to look at Haruka as a worthy rival.
