Gallants is a 2010 Hong Kong martial arts comedy film produced by independent production company Milkyway Image and directed by Derek Kwok and Clement Cheng. The film, which features a blend of slapstick-style comedy and traditional Hong Kong action, stars some of Hong Kong's most renowned actors, including Leung Siu-lung, Chen Kuan-tai, Teddy Robin, and Wong You-nam.

The film begins with the introduction of the two main characters, Cheung and So, who are both employees at a local teahouse. They are tasked by their boss to deliver a package to a retired martial arts master, Master Law, who lives in a remote village. Upon arriving in the village, they find that the village has changed vastly, and no longer has the vibrant kung fu community it once had. Instead, it is now a place for the elderly and their caretakers.

As they go out to search for Master Law, they stumble upon a conflict between thugs who are trying to take over the village from the locals. The thugs are led by a menacing villain played by MC Jin. Cheung and So witness the locals' own kung fu master, Master Law, being bullied by the thugs and decide to step in to help him out.

The film is filled with laugh out loud moments and numerous martial arts action sequences featuring some of the most iconic stars of Hong Kong cinema. The characterizations of the protagonists, Cheung and So, provide a good mix of humor and action. Leung Siu-lung plays Master Law and provides a rich performance that demonstrates his legendary status as a martial arts film star.

One of the main themes of the film is the importance of preserving traditional martial arts in contemporary society. The film emphasizes the idea that older traditions and values need to be cherished and lent support, even in the face of modern societal pressures. It characterizes the vibrant and active kung fu culture of the past generations as being marginalized and forgotten in the present times.

The movie is well-directed, with its action scenes primarily choreographed by famed martial arts choreographer Xiong Xin-Xin, who has worked on many other martial arts films such as Jet Li's Legend and Tai Chi Master. His experience is evident in the film's high production quality and tightly choreographed fight sequences that are both funny and exciting.

Another theme in Gallants is the idea that aspirations and determination can overcome physical limitations. This is demonstrated through the film's portrayal of the elderly kung fu masters who, despite being old and frail, still maintain their prowess in the martial arts. Their determination and spirit are highlighted, inspiring younger characters to retain their passion and desire for martial arts.

Ultimately, Gallants is a fun movie that provides humor, action, and inspiration. With its combination of slapstick comedy, traditional martial arts action, and themes of preserving traditions, the film is enjoyable for both fans of martial arts movies and those who are seeking an entertaining comedy.
