The show Gallery Girls follows the lives of seven young women trying to make a name for themselves in the competitive New York City art scene. In season 1 episode 2, titled "What Goes On," tensions rise as the ladies continue to navigate their personal and professional challenges.

The episode kicks off with a focus on two rival art galleries: Eli Klein Gallery, owned by the charismatic and highly successful Eli Klein, and End of Century, a more alternative space run by Claudia Martinez Reardon and her partner, Bill Powers. Claudia feels the pressure as she tries to juggle the demands of running a gallery while also maintaining her relationship with Bill.

Meanwhile, aspiring artist and intern at Eli Klein Gallery, Maggie Schaffer, finds herself torn between her loyalty to Eli and the tempting offer of working with Claudia at End of Century. She weighs the pros and cons of each opportunity and contemplates which path will be the most beneficial for her career.

On the other side of town, Amy Poliakoff struggles to find her place in the art world. As the daughter of a famous artist, Amy feels the weight of expectations from her family and must confront the reality that success might not come as easily as she had hoped. She seeks advice from her friend and fellow artist, Angela, who encourages her to keep pushing forward.

Chantal Chadwick, assistant at Eli Klein Gallery, tries to prove herself competent in her new role. She takes on the responsibility of organizing an art exhibition, but her lack of experience becomes evident, leading to mounting stress and anxiety. As Chantal navigates the challenges of event planning, she must also confront her own insecurities and fear of failure.

In the gallery world, connections and networking are key. Liz Margulies, the daughter of a prominent art collector, attends various events hoping to make meaningful connections. However, her struggles with anxiety and self-doubt often get in the way. Liz tries to push herself out of her comfort zone and put on a confident front, but it proves to be easier said than done.

While the women face their own individual battles, tensions within the group begin to arise. Maggie's decision to work with Claudia at End of Century creates conflict amongst the ladies. Some perceive it as a betrayal, while others understand Maggie's need to prioritize her own career. The episode delves into the complex dynamics of female friendships, highlighting the challenges of supporting one another while also pursuing personal ambitions.

As the episode draws to a close, the ladies come together at an art party filled with bustling energy and high expectations. The event serves as a backdrop for the culmination of their personal struggles and conflicts. The pressure mounts as each woman must confront her own insecurities and strive to prove herself in a world that can be unforgiving.

"What Goes On" provides an intimate glimpse into the lives of these young women as they navigate the cutthroat art world of New York City. It explores the challenges they face in their professional pursuits while also delving into their personal triumphs and setbacks. With friendships, careers, and aspirations on the line, the second episode sets the stage for a season filled with drama, ambition, and self-discovery.
