Ep 1. Tourist Trapped

Twin siblings Dipper and Mabel Pines are sent by their parents to spend the summer with their Great Uncle Stan, who runs a tourist trap called the Mystery Shack in the small town of Gravity Falls, Oregon. Upon arrival, the twins meet a few of the town's quirky residents and discover that their Uncle Stan's claims of "real" mysteries at the Shack may not be completely untrue.

The episode begins with the twins driving up to the Shack, and immediately noticing that the various exhibits are a bit underwhelming. Uncle Stan greets them at the door, and after some underhanded negotiating from Dipper, the twins reluctantly agree to work at the Shack for the summer in exchange for room and board.

As the day wears on, the twins encounter a group of extremely gullible tourists who are taken in by the Shack's exhibits. His suspicions are confirmed when he discovers that one of the attractions, a "life-size" wax figure of a lumberjack, is actually alive and trapped in the wax form.

The lumberjack, who claims to be named "Wax Larry King," reveals to Dipper that a mysterious villain known as the "Author" is responsible for trapping him and other townspeople in wax. Dipper is skeptical, but eventually becomes convinced that something bizarre is happening in Gravity Falls, especially once he meets a local teen named Wendy who works at the town's convenience store.

Wendy and Dipper hit it off immediately, but their budding friendship hits a snag when Wendy's boyfriend Robbie shows up and Dipper becomes jealous. Meanwhile, Mabel also has a frustrating encounter with love, in the form of a supposed psychic named Gideon who has come to the Shack with his parents.

As the day draws to a close, the twins and their Uncle Stan work to close up the Shack. Dipper makes a horrifying discovery when a group of wax figures come to life, including a dinosaur and several other creatures. The wax figures begin to attack the group, and the twins and Uncle Stan are forced to fight for their lives.

In the end, the twins are able to defeat the wax figures and save the day, though they are left with more questions than answers about the mysterious happenings in Gravity Falls. The episode ends with Dipper pondering the mysteries of the town, and with Mabel vowing to never fall in love again.
