Marshal Matt Dillon and his deputy, Festus Haggen, receive a call for help from a mining town outside of Dodge City. They arrive to find a man trapped in a collapsed mine shaft. The man's name is Frank Wilson, and he has been down there for two days. The town doctor, Dr. Chapman, tells Matt that Frank has a serious case of claustrophobia. He can't stand to be in confined spaces, and the longer he remains trapped the worse his condition will become.

Matt and Festus work with the miners to try and rescue Frank, but the collapse is too severe. They can't dig him out without causing more problems. Meanwhile, Frank's condition worsens and he becomes more and more agitated. He starts to hallucinate and becomes a danger to himself and the rescue crew.

Matt decides to try a risky plan. He believes he can reach Frank by going through one of the old abandoned shafts. It's dangerous, but it's their only hope. Festus volunteers to go with him. They find Frank, but getting him out will be a challenge. Frank refuses to move, he's completely paralyzed with fear. Matt and Festus have to use all their skills to try and talk him through it.

At the same time, tensions in the town are rising. The mine owner, a man named Jake, is becoming increasingly agitated. He wants the mine to start producing again, and the rescue efforts are holding things up. He starts to put pressure on the rescue crew to hurry things along. Matt becomes suspicious of Jake and starts to investigate him. He discovers that Jake has been cutting corners in the mine, and the collapse was likely caused by his negligence.

As the situation becomes more complicated, Frank's condition continues to deteriorate. The rescue crew has limited time to get him out before it's too late. Matt and Festus refuse to give up, despite the odds. They work through the night, trying to reach Frank. Matt's investigation leads him to a dangerous confrontation with Jake.

Will they be able to save Frank? Will Matt be able to bring Jake to justice? The answer lies buried deep in the mine. The tension and drama of this episode will keep you on the edge of your seat.
