Ep 9. The Pirate & the Practice

When Dr. Zoe Hart is asked to cover for a small-town doctor in Alabama, she never expected to stay there forever. Hart of Dixie Season 1, Episode 9 "The Pirate & the Practice" sees Hart struggling to adjust to small-town life in Bluebell, Alabama. In this episode, Zoe's mother comes to visit, much to her dismay. This is a huge surprise for Zoe as she hasn't seen her mother in years. Zoe's mother is a nurse, and she offers to help Zoe at the medical clinic. However, Zoe doesn't want her mother to be around due to their turbulent past and her mother's tendency to take over things.

Meanwhile, George is feeling unsettled about his recent engagement to Lemon. He turns to Zoe for advice. As they talk, it becomes clear to Zoe that George might not be ready for marriage, and she urges him to take his time. George's hesitation about his nuptials leads Lemon to believe she is not good enough for him. This prompts her to overcompensate by throwing herself into wedding planning.

Elsewhere, Wade needs money to replace his destroyed car and comes to Lemon for help, offering her a unique way to make some quick cash. However, this plan involves dressing up like a pirate and dancing at the local bar, much to Lemon's horror.

As all of this is taking place, Zoe is finding herself feeling increasingly lonely as she adjusts to life in Bluebell. She misses her life in New York and the friends she had there. It doesn't help that the locals are still skeptical of her and her abilities as a doctor.

Throughout "The Pirate & the Practice," the characters are grappling with their own insecurities. Lemon feels judged by the other members of the town and is struggling to keep up appearances, especially with the wedding looming.
