The anime series Higurashi no Naku koro ni Kai is the second season of the original Higurashi series. It was aired in 2006 and was produced by Studio Deen. The show has a total of 24 episodes and is based on a visual novel of the same name. Higurashi no Naku koro ni Kai follows the story of four main characters named Keiichi Maebara, Rena Ryugu, Mion Sonozaki, and Shion Sonozaki. The setting of the show takes place in the fictional village of Hinamizawa, which is known for its violent past and mysterious murders that take place every year during the village's annual festival.

The story of the show is divided into different arcs, each of which is centered on one of the main characters. The first arc is focused on Keiichi Maebara, who is a transfer student to the village. He soon becomes friends with the other main characters and learns about the village's past. The second arc is centered on Rena Ryugu, who has a mysterious past and is suspected of being involved in the annual murders. The third arc focuses on Mion Sonozaki, who is the head of the local gang and is suspected of being involved in the murders. The final arc is centered on Shion Sonozaki, Mion's twin sister, who has a dark secret and is involved in the murders.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Higurashi no Naku koro ni Kai is its storytelling structure. The show uses a non-linear narrative that jumps back and forth in time, showing different sequences of events from different perspectives. This structure adds to the mystery of the show and keeps the audience guessing until the end.

The animation style of the show is unique and stands out from other anime series. The characters are drawn with large eyes and bright colors, giving them a distinct look. The backgrounds and settings are also beautifully drawn, with detailed landscapes and intricate buildings. The show's soundtrack is also noteworthy, with haunting and suspenseful music that adds to the show's eerie atmosphere.

The voice acting in Higurashi no Naku koro ni Kai is excellent, with each character having a distinct voice and personality. Yui Horie voices the main character, Hanyuu Furude, who appears later in the series. Satsuki Yukino voices the character of Mion Sonozaki, while Mai Nakahara voices Rena Ryugu.

Overall, Higurashi no Naku koro ni Kai is a thrilling and suspenseful anime series that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Its unique storytelling structure, beautiful animation style, and excellent voice acting make it a must-watch for fans of the horror and mystery genres.
