Paul / Missy & Alex – Hoarders Season 1 Episode 7

In this episode of Hoarders, viewers are introduced to three people who have all struggled with hoarding tendencies in their different ways. The first person we meet is Paul, a retired chef whose house is filled with a lifetime of clutter and possessions. Although his cooking career allowed him to travel the world and collect unique items, now in his retirement, Paul has become increasingly overwhelmed by his hoarding and has lost all sense of organization.

Next, we meet Missy and Alex, a mother and son who are hoarding to the point where Missy's other son, who does not live with them, is considering legal action to force them to clean up. In this household, hoarding has led to unsanitary living conditions, overcrowded rooms, and mold issues.

As the episode progresses, we see each hoarder's situation unfold and learn more about their individual struggles with letting go of things. Paul, for example, is afraid of losing his memories and emotional attachments to the items he has collected over the years. This fear has led to him hoarding everything from kitchen gadgets to books to boxes and bags filled with items he has no use for.

Missy and Alex, on the other hand, are hoarding seemingly any item that comes into their possession. From old toys and clothes to broken electronics and pieces of furniture, nothing seems to be too insignificant to keep for them. This has made their home unsanitary and unsafe, and they have now begun hoarding outside on their property as well.

Throughout the episode, viewers see the team of professionals working with each hoarder as they begin the arduous process of cleaning and organizing their homes. This includes a therapist who helps them work through their emotional attachments to objects, a cleaning crew who sorts and disposes of items, and organizers who try to help the hoarders declutter and create more functional spaces.

As is the case with most episodes of Hoarders, the journey is not an easy one. Both Paul and Missy and Alex struggle to let go of their possessions, and both experience moments of panic and distress as they watch items being taken away from them. However, with the help of the professionals and their loved ones, they are able to begin the process of decluttering and organizing their homes.

By the end of the episode, viewers see the progress that has been made in each hoarder's home. Paul's house is finally beginning to resemble a livable space, and he is beginning to see the benefits of having less clutter. Missy and Alex's home is still a work in progress, but they have made significant strides in removing trash and debris from their property.

Overall, this episode of Hoarders is a poignant reminder of the toll that hoarding can take on one's mental and physical well-being. However, it also shows that with the right help and support, change is possible, and it is never too late to begin the process of decluttering and organizing.
