Ep 3. Birthdates

The show Hot In Cleveland, season 1 episode 3, Birthdates, begins with the ladies, Joy, Melanie, and Victoria, sitting at a restaurant, when they come across a flyer advertising a psychic, Madame Ambrosia, who could predict their futures. They decide to check her out, and when they reach her place, they encounter a man, Roy, who tells them that Madame Ambrosia had to rush out and that he is a psychic himself, who could give them their readings. The girls, skeptical at first, agree to let Roy give them their fortunes.

Joy discovers that she is going to meet the man of her dreams, Melanie discovers that she is going to be wooed by a billionaire, while Victoria discovers that she is going to be engaged soon. These readings excite the ladies and they can't keep their minds off them. Joy spends the rest of the episode obsessing over every man she could be meeting, while Melanie is waiting for her billionaire to sweep her off her feet. Meanwhile, Victoria is trying to figure out who her potential fiance could be.

The girls' birthday is coming up, and they decide to throw a party for themselves. They all plan to attend except Joy, who is too preoccupied with meeting the man of her dreams. However, events take an unexpected turn when Joy comes across a man who fits every description the psychic had given her about the man of her dreams. She discovers that he is a male prostitute and tries to snap out of it, but she can't help herself, she falls for him anyways.

Melanie, on the other hand, is eagerly waiting for her billionaire to show up, but she finds out that all her information was wrong, and she had been waiting at the wrong hotel for the wrong guy. Victoria finds out that her potential fiance is somebody unexpected and is surprised but happy.

Back at the party, things are not going according to plan when Joy's supposed dream man shows up at the party, and Melanie's supposed billionaire shows up as well, except he is a real estate billboard model. The ladies are shell-shocked but take the events in stride, and Joy finally lets go of her obsession with the psychic's predictions. The girls celebrate their birthdays, and Victoria reveals to them that she had been seeing somebody for a while, and he is her potential fiance. The ladies are happy for Victoria and party the night away.

The episode ends with the girls getting into a tussle over the psychic predictions, and Joy gets hurt. The girls realize that they had been foolish and apologize to each other. They then head off to a bar, where they meet a group of young guys who are stunned to learn that the girls are all in their fifties. The ladies take the night in stride and party with the young guys, laughing and enjoying themselves. The episode comes to a hilarious close as the ladies leave the bar with the young guys in tow.

Hot In Cleveland season 1 episode 3, Birthdates, is humorous, and it deals with the themes of friendship, aging, and psychic readings. It is a great insight into the lives of women in their fifties, who are still looking for love and adventure. The episode has a lot of twists and turns and is sure to keep the audience entertained.
