Ep 16. The Drunk Train

Ted is riding the Long Island Rail Road train out to his hometown of Farhampton for a wedding when he realizes that he's been on the same train car as a girl he's seen at his local bar for years. He and his architect colleague Barney devise a plan to get close to her.

Meanwhile, Robin and Nick, a guy she recently met at a club, attempt to keep their relationship casual and under the radar from the rest of the gang. However, they quickly find out that their attempts to keep things light and meaningless might be more difficult than anticipated.

Back on the train, Ted and Barney pretend to be drunk in hopes of getting the attention of the girl and her friends. However, things quickly spiral out of control when an actual group of drunk college students join the train car and start causing chaos.

As they try to navigate the rowdy group, the gang's relationships and true feelings are tested. Marshall and Lily argue over their differing opinions on having kids, while Ted struggles to come to terms with his own failed relationships.

Throughout the episode, the group's classic flashbacks and storytelling methods are used to add humor and insight into their past experiences. Ultimately, everyone learns valuable lessons about love, responsibility, and the importance of honesty.
