Jigoku Shoujo, also known as Hell Girl, is a popular anime series that premiered on Animax. The show revolves around the concept of revenge, and how people often seek it in their lives. The main character, Enma Ai, is a mysterious girl who appears to have supernatural powers. She works as a mediator, acting on behalf of people who want to seek revenge against those who have wronged them.

The show features a unique and dark storyline, with an intriguing premise that hooks the viewer from the start. The first season comprises of 26 episodes, each of which features a different character with a unique backstory. It explores the complex and twisted relationships between humans, and the consequences of their actions.

Masaya Matsukaze gives a compelling performance as Hajime Shibata, a journalist who becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth behind Hell Girl. He is the only character in the series to consistently question the morality of the victims and the consequences of their actions. He is driven by a sense of justice, and his investigations often lead to uncovering dark secrets that have been hidden for years.

Mamiko Noto plays the titular character of Enma Ai, who is often shrouded in mystery. She rarely speaks, and her expressions are often ambiguous, which adds to her mystique. Noto delivers a nuanced performance that effectively conveys the depth of Ai's character. Despite carrying out vengeful acts on behalf of others, Ai is not a villainous character. She is sympathetic to the pain of the victims and is equally tormented by her role in their fate.

Takako Honda and Eriko Matsushima play the roles of Tsugumi Shibata and Kikuri respectively. Tsugumi Shibata is Hajime's daughter, who becomes involved in the affairs of Hell Girl due to her father's obsession. Kikuri is a mischievous girl who is often seen taunting Enma Ai. The performances of these two characters are satisfactory, but they do not have as much screen time or depth as some of the other characters.

Hidekatsu Shibata portrays Wanyudo, a demon who serves as Ai's companion. He is often seen driving the other characters to their destination or interacting with them. His presence adds a layer of creepy ambiance to the show, thanks to Shibata's excellent voice acting.

Kanako Sakai, Hekiru Shiina, Yuji Ueda, Nana Mizuki, Ayumi Fujimura, and Kanae Oki appear as various characters throughout the series, each with their own unique stories and backgrounds. They deliver strong performances that highlight the complexity of their characters and help to elevate the emotional impact of the show.

Overall, Jigoku Shoujo is an engaging and thought-provoking anime that successfully explores complex themes of morality, revenge, and human relationships. Despite its dark subject matter, the show is visually stunning, with impeccable animation and art direction. The characters are well-developed, and their struggles and motivations are relatable to the audience. Ultimately, Jigoku Shoujo is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys a good anime with a thought-provoking storyline.

Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl) is a series that is currently running and has 4 seasons (86 episodes). The series first aired on October 23, 2007.
