Legends of the Hidden Temple was a game show that aired on Nickelodeon from 1993 to 1995. Hosted by Kirk Fogg, the show was set in a fictional Mayan temple and featured teams of two kids competing in physical and mental challenges. The show had a unique format in which six teams of two were initially selected by Kirk Fogg. The teams were then named after various ancient civilizations such as the Green Monkeys, Red Jaguars, Blue Barracudas, Orange Iguanas, Purple Parrots, and Silver Snakes. The teams would then compete in a series of physical and mental challenges to earn points.

The first round of the game was called the Moat Crossing, where the teams had to cross a pool of water by using a rope or bridge. The first four teams to successfully cross the moat would advance to the next round. The second round was called the Steps of Knowledge, where the teams answered questions about history and mythology to advance to the next level.

After the Steps of Knowledge, the remaining teams would compete in a variety of physical challenges in the third round, such as climbing a wall or building a bridge. The winning team of the third round would advance to the Temple Games.

In the Temple Games, the final two teams would compete in three physical challenges. The team with the most points at the end of the Temple Games would advance to the final round, the Temple Run.

In the Temple Run, one team member would enter the temple and attempt to retrieve an artifact from one of the temple rooms within three minutes while avoiding obstacles, such as temple guards who would capture the contestant and force them to return to the start of the temple. If the contestant successfully retrieved the artifact, they had to exit the temple and place the artifact on a pedestal to win the grand prize: a vacation to Universal Studios in Florida.

Throughout the show, teams faced challenges designed to test their physical and mental abilities. The challenges often incorporated themes and characters from ancient history and mythology, creating an educational aspect to the show in addition to its entertainment value.

Legends of the Hidden Temple became a popular show during its airing and often used as part of game shows re-runs of Nickelodeon throughout the years. Many of the artifacts featured in the show have become iconic, such as the silver monkey and the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, which was a particularly difficult challenge for contestants.

The show ran for three seasons from 1993 to 1995, and it was widely appreciated by children and teenagers who would tune in every episode to watch the action and excitement of the game. The show was visually interesting with its Mayan-themed set and immersive sound effects, which added an intense level of challenge and suspense throughout the entire game.

Overall, Legends of the Hidden Temple was a thrilling and educational game show which captured the attention of many children and teenagers during its running years. Its creative challenges and themes made it a must-watch for anyone looking for an action-packed adventure. Today, the show is fondly remembered and has become a classic among Nickelodeon's programming catalog, often referenced in many pop culture references across the years.
