This hilariously witty British satire of normal, everyday English-folk first got its start on BBC Radio 4 before being made into a television series a short time later. The sketch-comedy show features its creators known in England as the comic duo David Walliams and Matt Lucas.
In their sketches, Lucas and Walliams take aim at various character types known throughout Britain, poking fun at their eccentricities or economic standing by grossly exaggerating their lifestyle with clever costumes and witty writing. It also features a narrator of sorts who provides an overview of who the various personalities are and what they have or have not been doing. It also provides great comic relief by poking fun at the British society while encouraging audiences to have a laugh, sometimes at their own expense. The show quickly became popular throughout Britain, spawning catch phrases and even sparked a spin off show which aired on HBO called Little Britain USA. The new show brought even more attention to both Walliams' and Lucas' ability to captivate audiences, whether or not they are British, through sometimes outlandish dress and slightly off-kilter, even borderline controversial depictions of people from all walks of life in Britain and later America.
Series One of the sketch comedy aired on BBC 3 in 2003 and would continue on for another two seasons after it gained both momentum and success. Later in 2005, Walliams and Lucas were at it again. This time they came together to raise money for Comic Relief and featured funny skits with famous Brits like George Michael and Sir Elton John. They also took to their unique set of characters to the stage for Little Britain Live for a traveling show where they performed as their numerous alter egos for sold-out crowds across England. The characters came to life on stage and on screen in this cheeky look at some of Britain's most interesting personalities.
Little Britain is a series that is currently running and has 3 seasons (25 episodes). The series first aired on September 16, 2003.
