Ep 6. Daredevil Drug Runner

In the fifth season of Locked Up Abroad, the sixth episode Daredevil Drug Runner showcases the story of a drug smuggler named Chris Chance. Chris was a former US soldier living in Costa Rica with his wife and children. He was leading a peaceful life until he got trapped in the drug world and greediness overtook him.

Chris had a desire to live a luxurious lifestyle and provide the best for his family. However, he couldn't fulfill his dream with his low-paying job as a security guard. Therefore, he decided to accept the offer of smuggling drugs from Colombia to the United States, which eventually landed him in prison in Ecuador.

He explains how he met a Colombian businessman while working in a club in Costa Rica, who offered him a job as a drug runner. He thought smuggling drugs was easy money with no consequences. Little did he know that he was playing with fire and his luck would run out soon.

One fateful day, Chris and his partner were transporting a large amount of cocaine across the border when they were stopped and searched by the Ecuadorian police. The authorities found the drugs hidden in the surfboard, and Chris and his partner were arrested on the spot.

The episode takes its viewers through Chris's journey from the time he got caught to his sentencing in an Ecuadorian prison. Chris spends his time in a notorious prison, where he witnesses violence, extortion, and corruption firsthand.

The episode highlights how Chris's greed and desire for a better life put him in a dangerous situation. Being a small fish in a big pond, he was left to fend for himself in a violent prison. Chris had to learn to survive in an environment where lawlessness was the norm.

The episode further shows the struggles Chris's family faced after his arrest. His wife and children were forced to move back to the USA, leaving their life in Costa Rica behind.
