Lost is a spectacularly successful science fiction and adventure show that was featured on the ABC network between 2004 and 2010. Trio J.J. Abrams, Jeffrey Lieber and Damon Lindelof are credited as the creators, but the story was developed cooperatively by many different writers over the course of its life, just one quality that helped the show achieve its amazing magic and depth. Lost is comprised of such a diverse and rounded array of characters that it is difficult to pick out specific stars, but notable actors include Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly, Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson. The score for the show, which won widespread acclaim itself, was composed by Michael Giacchino.

At its core, Lost is about a group of strangers who become stranded on a not-so-deserted island when their plane crashes over the Pacific Ocean. Each character presented in the show has a very unique and compelling backstory, and the stranded soon learn that there is more to each of them than meets the eye. They realize that the island they have been forced to inhabit is far from an ordinary tropical paradise and that they are caught in something much bigger than themselves, which leads to some of the show's most intriguing questions. What is the island, and how did they happen to be brought there? More importantly, who are these people and why do they seem so mysteriously connected?

Lost is notorious for making viewers ache in anticipation, presenting events in nearly episode that demand new answers. Indeed, there is so much depth and lore that goes along with the series that, during the time it was airing, whole communities of theory crafters sprung up online trying to decipher the meanings of the things going on. This is a large part of what made the show so incredibly successful; it is profoundly thought-provoking at every turn, and much of it is open to interpretation.

The list of awards and acknowledgements the show has accrued since its inception is nearly endless. After its first season, Lost won an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series and would later receive three Golden Globe nominations for the same category, winning the award in 2006. Many critics praise it as one of the greatest shows to ever appear on television, and it's easy to see why. Beginning with its first episode, Lost is a thrilling experience and it continues to captivate millions today.

Lost is a series that is currently running and has 6 seasons (127 episodes). The series first aired on September 22, 2004.
