Ep 6. Separate Spaces

In Love It or List It season 12 episode 6, titled "Separate Spaces," homeowners Matt and Aleya are struggling to agree on the layout of their home. Matt loves their spacious house in Raleigh, North Carolina, but Aleya is feeling cramped and wants a more open floor plan. The couple has two children and often hosts family gatherings, so their home needs to be functional and efficient.

Interior designer Hilary Farr meets with Aleya to get a better understanding of their needs and wants for their home. Aleya expresses her desire for a more open concept that will allow her to keep an eye on her children while they play. She also wants to update the kitchen with modern appliances and create a more defined dining area. However, Matt is resistant to making any changes to the layout of the house.

Meanwhile, real estate agent David Visentin takes Matt house hunting to show him what kind of homes they could afford if they were to sell their current one. Matt is initially excited about the idea of a new home, but he quickly realizes that none of the houses they see truly meet their needs and wants.

Throughout the episode, both Hilary and David work hard to convince Matt and Aleya to either love their current home or list it and find a new one. Hilary creates a design plan that includes removing several walls to create an open concept, updating the kitchen with new appliances and cabinetry, and transforming the basement into a cozy family room and play area for the kids.

David, on the other hand, shows Matt several homes that he believes meet Aleya and Matt's needs and wants, but Matt remains hesitant. With time running out, both Hilary and David must convince the couple to make a decision on whether to love it or list it.

As always, there are unexpected setbacks and challenges that arise throughout the episode, but Hilary and David remain determined to help Aleya and Matt find the best solution for their family.
